Line and Shape
Two of the photos are of plants from my yard, while the other four were taken of inanimate objects in various places. The first two photos, the leaves and the flowers, were taken from my backyard and they are actually of the same hydrangea bush. The Japanese house photo was taken during the summer in Pennsylvania at a Japanese house display. The fourth photo was shot at KFC, when I noticed this perfect line of sauce droplets on the floor and thought I should capture it. The next one is a picture of the back of a chair at school in my math class. The last photo is my deck table, after it rained. Almost all of the photos I took were close ups, except third photo of the Japanese room. The photo of the circles and the leaves were taken straight on, while the table, flower, and room photos were taken at an angle. The fifth photo of the chair is the only one taken from an above perspective. The nature photos were taken vertically while the other photos were taken horizontally. The only photo that was taken using the rule of thirds was the Japanese room but it was unintentional. At the time that the picture was taken, I didn't know about the rule of thirds, I just thought the picture was composed well and balanced out. The flower pot seems to on the left most vertical third and attracts attention to it first. The chair photo is a dynamic composition that leads the viewer's eye to follow the top of the curves down to the bottom of the photo. It is reminiscent of a slide and leads the eye to follow it down.
Pattern and Texture
Images one and five are shot at an angle, while the images two and six are close ups. The fourth picture is shot from above and slightly angle so the it would catch the reflection of light. The first photo follows the rule of thirds if you look at the leading lines that the linked part of the fence creates. They create the upper and lower horizontal lines. The top of the building also contributes to the top horizontal third. The fifth image is an example of texture because of the grass texture and the grooved, metallic texture on the dolly. Rhythm also applies to image five due to lines the grooves make on the flat metal part of the object creates movement and perspective. I think image four is a bit overexposed because the top of the trash can is really bright but there really isn' t any part of the picture that is dark. All of it is bright and medium. I think image six is properly exposed because there is dark black and bright white but the texture of the flower isn't lost. I think the fifth image could be too dark, especially in the grass and between the wheels, but I think it looks better darker.
Powerlines and Playgrounds
The second photo demonstrates the rule of thirds the best because the power lines cross near the top and bottom thirds.
The first photo has the best point of view because it is not as easy to recognize it as a power line and displays shape and line.
I think the second image showcases positive and negative shapes the best because of the way the wires and the poles make triangles and polygons that are hard to ignore. I think the fourth image isn't the strongest composition, mostly because of the bush placement, but I think it leads the viewer's eye the best because of the lines coming from the top right of the photo and fading out in the bottom left hand side. The fifth image shows what I've learned about composition this term because it has perspective, repetition, and positive and negative space.
